Karndean Van Gogh Flooring and Abingdon Stair Runner

Smyth Carpets completed two recent flooring projects using Karndean Van Gogh luxury vinyl tile, with one installation also paired with an Abingdon Flooring stair runner.

The first project involved fitting Karndean Van Gogh throughout the downstairs of a home, creating a warm wood-effect finish across the hall, lounge and dining areas. This was combined with a fitted stair runner, finished with professional binding by Nicola Edwards Carpet Edging.

The second project also used Karndean Van Gogh and included more detailed fitting around tricky steps and changes in floor level.

The Brief

The brief was to create practical, attractive flooring for busy downstairs areas while keeping a warm and natural look throughout the home.

Karndean Van Gogh was chosen for its realistic wood-effect appearance and durable finish, making it well suited to hallways, living rooms, dining spaces and kitchens. For the staircase, the customer wanted the comfort and style of a runner, while still allowing the painted stair edges and wooden features to remain visible.

The second installation also required careful attention to changes in level and step details, so the finished floor needed to feel neat, secure and consistent throughout.

Our Approach

The team fitted Karndean Van Gogh across the downstairs areas, working carefully through connected rooms to create a smooth and consistent finish.

The flooring was installed around doorways, furniture layouts and room transitions, helping the floor run naturally from one space into the next. In the first home, the Karndean was paired with an Abingdon Flooring stair runner, which was professionally bound to create a smart, tailored edge.

For the second project, extra care was taken around the steps and changes of level. These areas required accurate cutting and finishing so the flooring could sit neatly and safely across the different heights.

The Result

The finished projects show how well Karndean Van Gogh works across full downstairs spaces.

The wood-effect finish adds warmth and character, while the LVT provides a practical surface for everyday family use. In the first property, the combination of Karndean flooring and a bound Abingdon runner created a stylish contrast between the downstairs floor and staircase.

The second installation also delivered a clean, professional result, with the flooring fitted neatly around the more challenging step and level changes.
