Herringbone Stair Runner Installation in Aldwick

Smyth Carpets completed a herringbone stair runner installation for a home in Aldwick, using Abingdon Flooring Royal Sterling. The runner brought texture, warmth and a smart design detail to the staircase, while the contrasting black border created a sharp, tailored finish.

The staircase sits within a bright, modern hallway, with light wood flooring and clean white stair edges, so the runner needed to complement the space without overpowering it.

The Brief

The client wanted a stair runner that would feel practical, stylish and in keeping with the rest of the home. The herringbone design was chosen to add subtle pattern and texture, while the black border helped define the shape of the staircase and create a more bespoke look.

The project needed a precise finish across the stairs, turns and landing sections, making sure the runner followed the staircase neatly from top to bottom.

Our Approach

We carefully measured and fitted the Abingdon Flooring Royal Sterling runner to suit the layout of the staircase. The herringbone pattern needed to sit cleanly across each step, with the border aligned neatly along the edges and around the turns.

The contrast between the neutral runner, black edging and white staircase gave the installation a clean, high-quality finish. Attention to detail was especially important around the landing and change of direction, where a poorly planned runner can quickly look uneven.

The Result

The finished stair runner gives the Aldwick home a much more polished and welcoming feel. The herringbone texture adds interest without being too bold, while the black border frames the staircase beautifully and ties in with the rest of the interior.
